Hilda Pauline Wiens

July 11, 1947 — December 8, 2021

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the peaceful passing of our dear wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Hilda Pauline (Penner) Wiens, on Wednesday, December 8, 2021 at Bethesda Regional Health Centre.

Pauline will be lovingly remembered by her husband Bill of 48 years, their three daughters; Karen and Corey Wiebe, Cindy and Dave Doerksen, Laurel and Chris Vogt, her grandchildren; Shaylene (Tyler), Brycen, Karlana, Mason, Mikayla and Brandon, and her great-grandchildren; William and Charlotte.  She also leaves behind two brothers, two sisters, 4 brothers-in-law, 7 sisters-in-law and numerous nephews and nieces.

She was predeceased by her brother Henry Penner, her parents David H. and Hilda Penner and her parents-in-law Peter and Lydia Wiens.

Mom was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba on July 11, 1947 to David H. and Hilda Penner.  She was the eldest of six children.  Mom lived her early years in the Silberfeld area where her dad managed a store.  Her parents then bought a dairy farm and moved the family to the Friedensfeld area.  She spent a lot of time with her paternal grandparents and aunt, who were instrumental in developing her love for people and her love for God.

Mom was baptized on May 14, 1967, upon the confession of her faith, at the Steinbach Mennonite Church.  She spent a lot of time covering her loved ones, as well as many others in prayer, and reading her Bible.  She had a big heart for those around her, especially those that were hurting.  Mom loved to be involved in church.  Whether through teaching Sunday School, singing in the choir, or attending the Sunbeams Ladies Aid, she was often there helping.

On August 24, 1969, mom graduated as a Licensed Practical Nurse.  She worked at the Victoria Hospital in Winnipeg, Hanover Medical Clinic in Steinbach and the Menno Home for the Aged in Grunthal.  She loved her career as a nurse, which ended early due to a back injury.  She loved caring for the many patients that she saw each day.  Mom also worked many years at A&W and enjoyed serving the customers there.

Mom met her future husband, Bill Wiens, in 1971.  After dating a couple of years, they married on September 1st, 1973, which was a very rainy day.  They loved each other very much and were blessed with three daughters and raised them on an acreage in the Steinbach area.  She loved to travel with her family which included many camping trips.  She also spent a lot of time sewing, which included sewing new dresses for us girls for the holidays, as well as for our cousins. Reading was also a favourite pastime that she would enjoy when she had the time.

We, as a family, would like to thank all the nurses, doctors, healthcare aides, and cleaning staff on the Medicine Ward of the Bethesda Regional Health Centre.  We appreciate all of the care shown to our wife and mom, Pauline, and to ourselves, as we sat by her side.

A private funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, December 14, 2021, with a private burial at the Steinbach Heritage Cemetery following the service.

A recording of the service will be made available on the obituary site following the service.
