It is with great sadness to announce the passing of Yvon Legal, 71, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend to many. Yvon passed away on May 5, 2026, peacefully in the comfort of his home and pride in his beloved hometown of Ste Geneviève, surrounded by his beloved wife and family. Born on December 5, 1954, in Ste Geneviève, Manitoba. Yvon's life was a testament to love, laughter, and dedication to his family.
Yvon was a man of many talents and passions. He dedicated 35 years as Chief of Fire Station #3 in Ste Geneviève, from the very beginnings of Hall #3 until his retirement as Chief in 2015. His commitment to the Community Centre and Fire Department leaves a forever lasting impact on the community in so many different ways.
Yvon's love for music, hunting, and his yard was apparent to all who knew him, often hosting camping weekends and having friends and family over. Yvon played music shows on stage, in many different towns over the years, despite having stage fright at almost every show. Hunting for whitetail deer and grouse with whom ever wanted to tag along. Teaching, guiding and honing hunting skills to all who loved the hunt as much as he did. His enthusiasm for music, hunting and anything outdoors was infectious, inspiring many to have the same love for these things as he did.
He is survived by his loving wife of almost 48 years Lynn, and their two sons, Justin (Christine) and Darcy (Tricia); his four beautiful grandchildren, Paydence, Alexie, Wesley, and Milènne, who all absolutely adored their Pépère; and dearest Mononcle Léo, whose love for his nephew Yvon was unwavering, patient, and guiding.
Yvon was predeceased by his cherished mother Gisèle (Titoune); Mononcle Raymond (Monmon) and Matante Marie Legal; Mononcle Aurèle and Matante Marie (Bibil) St Laurent; Monocle Étienne (Tipit) and Mononcle Léo and Matante Lucille (Lulu) Lansard and Mononcle Jean Dornez.
Yvon's memory and legacy will live on through his family, whose lives have been enriched by his unwavering love and dedication to family.
A memorial service to celebrate Yvon’s life will be held on Saturday, May 30, 2026, at 12:00 PM with a reception to follow at Crossings Funeral Care in Steinbach.
The family would also like to send out a heartfelt thank you to the nurses and doctors at the Bethesda Regional Health Centre and the home care and palliative care team as well. You have all been truly wonderful.
