It is with broken hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of William (Billy) Loftus in his own home at the age of 30. Billy was predeceased by his father Bill, his grandparents, Raoul & Louise (Violet). Billy’s memory will be cherished by his mother Teresa, his godparents Colette & Ron and the abundance of friends and family he made such an impact on.
Billy was born and raised in Lorette, Manitoba where he and his mother were a pillar in the community and known by all. Attending kindergarten to grade 8 at Dawson Trail School, then grade 9 to grade 12 at Collège Lorette Collegiate, Billy built up an immense friend group.
When it comes to sports and intelligence, Billy excelled in all aspects. In Dawson Trail School he was always reading books, reports and doing math of grades higher than his own. One of Billy’s most astonishing skills was his spelling. After crushing the local spelling bee Billy went on to provincials to fail just shy of winning, but he did this all while being 2 years younger than most of his competitors, only being in grade 6 at the time.
Once Billy got into grade 9, that’s when his love for sports flourished. Billy played in every available sport that he could. He didn’t just play these sports either, he excelled. His love for basketball and volleyball while attending Collège Lorette Collegiate for 4 years only grew as time went on in his life. He won countless titles and awards over his time in high school and continued basketball post high school and even played football in the Major Football League when he was 19.
As a young man he started his working life in Lorette at the Petro-Canada, before learning how much he enjoyed working with his hands, and problem-solving tasks as a millwright employee. Billy took on plenty of jobs out of town which was his bread and butter. His love for meeting new people and making even more friends with co-workers was his way of enjoying life to the fullest.
The Loftus household had multiple different pets over the years. Dogs, cats, a few baby skunks, to even owning a flying squirrel at one point. Tika, his first favourite furry friend was an inuit sled dog. Recently Billy’s best friend was his cat Cinci. Every conversation you had with Billy somehow ended up with him bringing up Cinci.
Billy will be remembered for having the biggest heart the town of Lorette has ever seen. His caring gestures, sense of humour, easy connection with people and strangers, heart of gold and incredible life stories. His love for his friends, family, and pets was the staple for how big Billy’s heart really was. He will be greatly missed by all and his memory will forever go on. Thank you to a great bunch of friends.
