It is with deep sorrow and heavy hearts that I announce the passing of my dear husband, Ronald Lynn Funk, who passed away peacefully at the age of 84 at Rest Haven Care Home in Steinbach on Thursday, May 7, 2026.
Ron was predeceased by his parents, John and Elvera Funk.
Ron was born and raised in the Altona area and was proud to have grown up as the son of a military father. He carried a deep respect and admiration for his dad’s service throughout his life. Intelligent, independent, and hardworking, Ron found great fulfillment in being his own boss and successfully owned and operated more than one business during his lifetime. He spent most of his adult years living in Winnipeg.
In September of 2013, over the Labour Day long weekend, Ron met his life partner, Simonne Meilleur. From that Saturday forward, the two shared companionship, laughter, and unwavering support through life’s many seasons.
Ron was known for his quick wit and playful “tit for tat” sense of humour. Beneath that sharp humour was a gentle soul whose kindness could be felt by those around him. His love for animals was especially evident throughout his life. As a child, he befriended a crow, and over the years, he was never without a beloved companion animal — even if it was simply many fish.
Over the past several years, Ron experienced a gradual decline in his health, including the challenges of dementia during the last two years of his life. Through it all, he continued to be deeply loved and cared for by those closest to him.
Ron leaves to mourn his passing his loving partner, Simonne Meilleur; his children, Wally, Dixie, and Shawn from his first marriage; and his four siblings.
Thank you, Ron, for being such a beautiful soul and for loving so deeply. Your gentleness, humour, and presence will always be remembered and dearly missed.
As per Ron's wishes, no formal services are being planned.
