Becky Hiebert, age 65, went home to be with Jesus on the afternoon of Tuesday, July 22nd 2025, with her loving husband by her side. Her battle with cancer has come to an end, and her family rejoices that she is now healed and in the presence of her Lord and Saviour.
Becky is survived by her beloved husband of 41 years, John; her three sons, Chris, Jeremy, and Jason; her mother, Eva Funk; and her siblings: Judy, Brian (Val), (Roberta), Debbie (Ken), Joyce (Pat), and Dan (Bobbie-Joe). She is also lovingly remembered by her in-laws: Marie (John), Cornie (Anne), Kathy, George (Betty), Dick (Karen), Joy (Ivan), Liz (Archie), Marge (Harold), Abe (Bernice), Frieda (Ernie), Esther (Bob), Ruth, and Susan (Gary), along with many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her father, Ben (1997); her brother, Ken (2018); her father-in-law, Bill (2005); her mother-in-law, Susie (2019); her brother-in-law, Lon Petruic (2021), and long-time member of her family and good friend, Betty Anne Funk (2025).
Becky gave her life to Jesus as a teenager and remained a faithful follower throughout her life. She was actively involved in church life and taught Bible classes in school. She attended Peace River Bible Institute in Alberta for two years and later worked in the office at Loewen Windows for a number of years.
From the moment John met Becky, he knew she was someone special. By their second date, he was certain she was the one he would marry—and just eight months later, on August 18, 1984, they became husband and wife. Their early years of marriage included several moves due to pastoral ministry. In 2001, the family settled in Niverville, where they lived for seventeen years. During that time, Becky operated a home cleaning business, worked in child care, and eventually became the manager of home care cleaning and laundry at the Heritage Centre. She served in this role for ten years and was deeply appreciated by those that worked with her.
In July 2018, Becky and John moved to Steinbach, where they entered a season of semi-retirement. They became regular attendees at Southland Church, where Becky served in various capacities. She was also a member of a ladies' Bible Study group with family and friends.
Becky radiated love. Her devotion to Jesus was central to her life. She deeply loved her husband, with whom she shared everything—faith, song, prayer, laughter, and countless car rides. She adored her sons and cherished every moment spent with them. Her love extended to her entire family, her church community, and especially the Southland Church’s seniors’ group, the Pillars, and her dear friend Victoria.
Becky was known for her beautiful and contagious smile, which remained throughout her journey with cancer. Her joyful spirit and sense of humor were a blessing to all who knew her. One cherished family tradition was her use of a special “birthday trinket box,” which brought laughter and joy year after year.
In 2021, Becky was diagnosed with cancer. The initial year was challenging, but the disease briefly subsided before returning aggressively in 2024. Through it all, she found strength in Jesus and in the support of her family, church, and friends. She experienced a deep peace that she attributed to the prayers of the seniors’ group and her loved ones. Despite the physical toll, her radiant smile never faded.
Becky often said that if even one soul came to Jesus through her cancer journey, it would all be worth it. Several Scripture verses became especially meaningful to her, including Psalm 23:1, “The Lord is my Shepherd; I have everything I need,” and Psalm 68:19, “Praise the Lord, who daily carries our burdens.”
Her family will be forever grateful to the staff at Bethesda Hospital for the loving care they provided.
Becky is now where she longed to be—at home with Jesus—and her family rejoices with her. She is dearly missed and forever loved. Her life touched so many, and her legacy of faith and love lives on. Her desire was to finish well—and she did.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, July 29, 2025 at the Southland Church, Steinbach, Manitoba. With viewing 1 hour prior to the service. A private interment will take place in the Heritage Cemetery at a later date. For those unable to attend in person, the family invites you to join them through livestream.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Bethesda Foundation.
