Peter Edward Toews

In loving memory of Peter Toews who passed away peacefully on November 18, 2023.

Left to cherish his memory: his wife, Susan Toews, his three children and their spouses, Suzanne and Rob Toews, their children Kennedy and Parker, his fiancé, Kayla, Charles and Christina Toews, their sons Jayden and Myles (predeceased), Stephanie and Elvis Williams, their children Marcella, Paisley and Isaiah.

Peter Toews was born on February 9, 1953, in Winnipeg, MB.  The youngest of 6 children, to Edward and Anna Toews residing in Ridgewood, MB. Shortly after high school he met his wife Susan Reimer, and they were married on September 15, 1973.  They happily celebrated their 50th anniversary this year.  Peter and Susan  went on to have three children, and lived in Steinbach, MB for most of their life.  Peter spent his career in the commercial flooring business and enjoyed his work immensely.  He made many lifelong friendships with his coworkers and peers in the industry.

Peter loved golfing and enjoyed many golf trips with his friends and family.   He spent many weekend mornings at the Steinbach Fly-In Golf Club having coffee with the other members. Peter enjoyed men's league and volunteering his time on the golf course board. 

Peter accomplished his lifelong goal of playing at the St. Andrews golf course in Scotland in 2017 (pictured). He went on many fishing trips with family and in his younger years loved playing football, water skiing and found an interest in motorcycling as well.

He took great pride serving the community of Steinbach on the Steinbach Fire Department for 11 years and very much appreciated his role in leadership as the Assistant Deputy Chief.  The comradery he felt with his fellow firefighters was an area of his life that always resulted in wonderful stories and fun memories.

Another part of Peter’s life that brought him happiness was coaching his children’s sports teams, he was always ready to volunteer and wanted to have a positive impact on all of the kids lives.  His biggest joy in life was spending time with his grandkids, attending all their events and spending summer days swimming, and relaxing at the family camper. Above all, Peter loved his family. His wife, kids, and grandkids were incredibly important to him and were profoundly treasured. 

A celebration of life will be held at 10:30 am on Thursday, November 23, 2023, at Crossings Funeral Care. With a viewing one hour prior to the service. Ernie Koop will be officiating. Interment will follow in the Heritage Cemetery following the reception. 

The family would like to extend their appreciation to the palliative care staff with Southern Health for their kindness and compassionate care.
