Nick Rempel

April 13, 1932 — January 3, 2026

Nick Rempel was born on April 13, 1932, to William and Anna (Toews) Rempel, a mile north of Rosenort, where he lived on that same quarter section most of his life. He passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of January 3, 2026, at the age of 93.

Dad gave his heart to the Lord at the age of 15 and was baptized into the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite. This faith was precious to him right until the end.

On October 2, 1955, Dad married Matilda Friesen, and they enjoyed 70 happy years together. Their first home was a simple two-room cabin on his parents’ yard. Later they built their own farmstead where they had 8 children. The family enjoyed many happy moments farming there together. Dad was a good provider and had the gift of figuring out problems. He was a grain farmer and raised hogs and cattle. He was also a licensed electrician for many years. It was very important to him to keep up his equipment, and he did most of the repairs himself. The farm was located along the Morris River, and when it would exceed its banks in the spring, Dad loved to go boating.

Dad was a very giving man, and his family benefited greatly from his generosity. He was especially devoted to caring for his disabled daughter, Joanne, and was deeply concerned about ensuring she would receive good care after he passed away. Together with Mom, they opened their home to numerous young women who volunteered at the childcare homes in Winnipeg.

Dad suffered many years of pain with his back, but that didn’t seem to slow him down. He often expressed in prayer his thankfulness for the church and for their forefathers moving to this free country. In his later years, Dad was diagnosed with dementia, yet his prayers remained strong all the way to the end.

As our parents entered their senior years, they moved into the Rosenort Heritage Home where they received great care. They later moved into the Maplewood Manor where they lived in a comfortable suite for a couple of years before Dad needed to be moved into full care. Once again, Dad received excellent care as his health deteriorated.

Left to grieve his passing are his wife, Matilda, and his children: Audrey and Charles Goossen, Rudy Rempel, Robyn Rempel, Brian and Tina Rempel, Noreen and Winston Penner, Joanne Rempel, Wilma and Frank Reimer, Lori and Patrick Leatherman, and Marilyn and Kirk Petoskey. He is also survived by many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, as well as his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Wilbert and Rose Friesen, and sister-in-law Doris Penner. Dad was the last of his siblings to pass away.

The family wishes to especially thank the staff at the Rosenort Heritage Home and the Maplewood Manor for their dedicated care of Dad during the past years.
