MaryAnn Bartel was born January 21, 1929, to Martin F. and Agnes Barkman in the village of Steinbach, MB. She was the youngest of seven children. Mom was ready when the angels came for her on Oct. 30, 2025, at Maplewood Manor in the city of Steinbach.
Mom grew up on the family farm in the Clearsprings district. She attended Clearsprings School and later furthered her education by taking nurse’s training in 1951. On August 3, 1952, she married Stanley Bartel in Steinbach, Manitoba. They lived on the dairy farm at Giroux Manitoba until 1968, when they moved to Roblin, Manitoba. There she remained a busy farm wife and mother, for by then they had 5 children. The family became complete with the arrival of another daughter in Roblin. In 1988, Dad and Mom retired and moved off the farm into their new home a mile up the road. They lived there together until 2001, when Dad was suddenly taken from her on December 26.
The next fall, she moved off the farm and into Roblin. She adjusted well to town life, and it was a pleasure to see her fit in with the other residents in the Roblin Apartments. After spending 49 ½ years in the Roblin area, she moved back to Steinbach. Maplewood Manor became her home, and she loved it. We are very grateful for the excellent care she received during the eight years she was there.
Mom gave her heart to Jesus and was baptized on December 12, 1943. Her faith was strong and carried her through the tests that life brought her. Hard times seemed to strengthen her faith in God, and she never gave up. She had a zest for life, and even recently, she expressed a desire to keep on living. Mom loved her children dearly and never grew weary of seeing the grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She has left us a legacy that is priceless, and her life pointed the way to heaven.
Left behind are Marilyn and Denver Penner, Swan River, Manitoba; Coreen and Weldon Reimer, Cartwright, Manitoba; Dale and Vonna Bartel, Roblin, Manitoba; Randy and Becky Bartel, Roblin, Manitoba, currently serving in the Philippines; Allen Bartel, Roblin, Manitoba; Sheryl and Ray Isaac, Bredenbury, Saskatchewan; 32 grandchildren, 83 great grandchildren and special nieces Leona Wohlgemuth and Marj Wohlgemuth. Surviving in-laws include: Linden and Alice Wohlgemuth, John and Dorothy Burns, Denton and Diana Friesen, and many nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her husband Stanley, one daughter-in-law Leona, and all her siblings and their spouses.
