Maria Doerksen (Nee: Penner)

Maria Doerksen age 80 years, 6 months and 8 days, beloved wife of Peter Doerksen for 47 years, went to be with her Lord and Saviour on Sept. 25, 2024, 5:26 p.m. at Rest Haven Care Home with her daughters by her side.

Maria was born on March 17, 1944 the 4th child of 14 children. in Sommerfeld, Chihuahua Mexico, to Johan & Anna Penner, Maria grew up and attended school in Mexico, and was baptized on the confession of her faith in Jesus Christ as her Saviour in 1964.

Maria married Peter Doerksen who was a widower with four children on June 5, 1977.

Peter and Maria had a daughter together a year later, which brought the number of children to five.

They farmed in Mexico for a couple of years, when they decided to move to Canada in April 1980, where they lived in the Steinbach area for two years.

In April 1982, they moved back to Mexico, where they continued farming. In 1998 they sold their farm and moved to Manitoba once again. They lived in Grunthal for 23 years, where Maria gardened, did massage therapy, sewed and rode her scooter around town in summer.

In 2021, they sold their home in Grunthal and moved to Steinbach. Eight months after their move to Steinbach, Maria had her first stroke in April 2022. She moved to Rest Haven Care Home in December 2022, where she lived until her passing.

Maria was predeceased by one grandson, her parents, one sister and five brothers.

Left to cherish her memory is her husband Peter, two daughters, Elma and Esther, three sons, Henry, Frank and Peter along with their families, twelve grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, three sisters and four brothers.

The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to the staff at Rest Haven Care Home and Crossings Funeral Care for their care and compassion shown to Maria.

A viewing will be held from 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm on Wednesday, October 2, 2024, at Crossings Funeral Care in Steinbach, with a short devotional at 7:00 pm, followed by a time of fellowship and coffee. 

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm on Thursday, October 3, 2024, at Crossings Funeral Care in Steinbach, with viewing prior to the service. Followed by a reception. Interment will take place in Heritage Cemetery.
