Margaret Friesen

May 24, 1933 — November 4, 2023

Margaret Friesen went to be with her Lord and Savior, on Saturday, November 4, 2023 at the Rest Haven Care Home in Steinbach.

Mom was predeceased by her husband George, children Elma and David, her parents, as well as, 4 sisters, 1 brother, & several brothers & sisters-in-law.

She will be sadly missed & lovingly remembered by her children; Willie (Leah), Eric (Val), George (Joanne), grandchildren; Cheryl (Steve), Terry (Shannon), Charles (Stacey), Natalie (Fabian), Taylor (Jaylene), Chenise (Florian) & seven great grandchildren.

Mom was born May 24, 1933 in Barkfield, MB. And was the 4th of 7 children born to Peter & Susie Bergen.

She spent her childhood years in Barkfield, as well as Lundar, Mb. area.

In her early teens she moved to Winnipeg and began working as a Nanny for a wealthy Jewish family and early adult years she worked at the St. Boniface Hospital.

She met Dad and they married on Sept 6, 1953. Shortly after that, they began dairy farming.   Mom very much enjoyed the field work aspect of farming.

They were blessed with 5 children. Elma, David, Willie, Eric and George.  Sadly Elma & David passed in infancy.

In their 40’s, they both gave their lives to the Lord and faithfully served him, raising their family for the Lord.

Mom enjoyed being with family more than anything.  Her grandchildren were her biggest joy. She loved spending her time with them regardless of the activity & they have many fond memories to cherish.

They loved music.  Mom played accordion together with Dad on the violin.  They were an instrumental part in forming the Glory land Singers group, which continued for approximately 18yrs.

She was always blessing us with her generosity. Often her shopping trips resulted in driving to all her kids’ homes & personally delivering her great sale item purchases & family packs of farmer sausage.

Mom was very spontaneous & always ready for an adventure; whether it was jeep rides, four-wheeler rides, Christmas sleepovers… she was game for anything!

Berry picking & searching for lady slippers was a regular seasonal thing.

Our family would like to extend a sincere thank you to all the Bethesda Hospital staff that cared for Mom, as well as the Rest Haven staff for their care & compassion.

Special thanks to Rocco’s from the ‘crispy fry lady’!

A celebration of Mom's life will be held at 10:30am on Friday, November 10, 2023 at the Grunthal CMC Church, with viewing one hour prior to the service. For those unable to attend in person the family invites you to join them through livestream. Please click here to view the livestream.
