Luella Marie Brandt was born on March 5, 1960, to Peter and Mary Dueck in Carman, Manitoba. She grew up with her four siblings — Elmer, Gerald, her twin sister Sylvia, and Carol. In 1964, the family moved to Howardville, Manitoba, where she attended Mennville Christian School and later graduated from Riverton Collegiate Institute. After graduation, she moved to Winnipeg and worked at Caesars Palace.
She grew up learning about Jesus and attending Mennville EMC, but did not fully accept Him into her heart until she was 20 years old. This was a monumental moment that changed her life forever.
After marrying her high school crush, Stan, they moved back to Howardville to live in the house her dad built.
Mom’s mother, Mary, passed away from breast cancer when Mom was just 24 years old. Losing her mother so young was incredibly hard, yet she endured and navigated life, marriage, and motherhood without her mom’s guidance — and not only did she endure, she thrived.
She leaves behind her faithful and loving husband of 43 years, Stan, along with their daughters and their families:
Sheri and Tim, Keziah and Emmalee;
Krista and Sam, Hannah and Natalie;
Janette and Jason and little Romeo;
Aimee and Trystan;
and her baby, Kayley — who brought her so much joy and helped with anything she needed in her final years.
She was involved in many avenues within the community and church, including the food committee, Sunday school, Christian Women’s Club, care group, and serving in deaconship alongside Dad.
Mom was diagnosed with breast cancer in April of 2015. She underwent treatment and was officially in remission in June of 2016. We had hoped that would be the end of her cancer journey, but that was not God’s plan for her. She was diagnosed again in October of 2021; this time the breast cancer had metastasized to her bones, and she was given five years to live. This was obviously devastating news for our family, but from that moment on, she remained peaceful and determined.
She fought to live and lived life to the fullest, taking in each moment with her precious grandbabies.
The last five years were a testament to her strength, as she refused to let the hardships of her illness hold her back from enjoying life. It is a legacy we will carry with us.
Mom fought long and hard in her battle with cancer, keeping her hope and faith in God through it all. She often spoke of the peace she felt during treatment and knew it came from God. Her battle came to an end on February 3, 2026, just shy of her 66th birthday. We find comfort in knowing she is finally reunited with her dad and her mom, whom she had not seen in so many years.
Our family would like to thank Rachel and Debbie from HSC ICU for their incredible care and comfort while she was there in November. Thank you to Dr. Armstrong at Seven Oaks Hospital for giving her a better quality of life near the end. Thank you also to Julie and Tannis from CancerCare in Gimli, who were there for her from the very beginning of her journey.
After a long and courageous battle, she is finally at rest — healed, restored, and free from cancer — made whole in her heavenly body.
A celebration of her life will be held at 1:00 pm on Monday February 9, 2026 at the Freedom Worship Centre in Arborg, Manitoba. A luncheon will be held after the service at the Arborg Community Centre. For those unable to attend in person the family invites you to join them through livestream.
