Brian Plett

July 28, 1950 — January 18, 2026

After a very brief illness, John Brian Plett passed away on January 18, 2026 at the Health Sciences Center in Winnipeg Manitoba.

Brian was born on July 28, 1950 to Frank and Martha Plett. He spent his first 12 years growing up in the Blumenof area, before his parents purchased a small farm just a few miles south of Steinbach. From there, Brian went to school in Bristol where his uncle Joe was his school teacher, and grew up farming alongside his dad.

In 1970 Brian started dating Elizabeth, on their first date dad brought mom to one of his hockey games. They later went on to get married on November 4, 1972. Together they built their homestead on the farm where he lived. Spending their years dairy farming and raising a family. In 1975 their first son was born, in the next years they had 3 more sons and a daughter.

Brian enjoyed life on the farm, he enjoyed the simple way of living and the outdoors. Brian spent many hours on his TD9 International moving rocks, pushing brush or manure. In winters he would spend time in the bush cutting trees and supplying the house and other farm buildings with wood for winter heating. One of Brian’s favorite pastimes was watching sports, especially hockey and football.

Four and a half years ago, Brian and Elizabeth moved to Mitchell. Brian had some mobility issues which made working difficult. Even after moving into town, Brian would daily go to the farm in his red truck to spend his afternoons in his shop, spending time with the boys at the farm, and staying involved with knowing what was going on at the farm. He went to the farm even on his last afternoon on the day he was hospitalized.

Brian is survived by his wife of 53 years, Elizabeth (Liz), and his children and their families, Leroy (Debra) & Julia, Talia, Lydia, Howard (Ruth) & Bailey (Brittany), Ethan (Heidi), Mark, Lisa & Haydyn, Nevaeh, Paisley, Hailey, Victoria, Terry (Sherisse) & Teagan (Evan) Lage, Brooke, Toby, Tim (Nicole) & Grayson, Myckenna, Cade. Four sisters, Carol Kehler, Val (Wes) Konrad, Irene Plett, Marilyn (Jeff) Reimer and their families, four sisters-in-law, three brothers-in-law, and their families.
