John was born in Toronto, Canada, in 1950. He had a passion for science and technology from an early age and pursued a career as an electrical engineer, attending Waterloo University with distinction for his degree. John worked for several companies in Ontario and Nova Scotia in AM/FM transmitters, where he was widely regarded as one of the foremost experts in his field of specialization. He was proud of his profession and was always eager to share his knowledge and enthusiasm with others. He often spoke with pride of the accomplishments he and his colleagues at Nautel undertook. He also enjoyed tinkering with various gadgets and inventions in his spare time and frequently amazed his family and friends with his unique and innovative creations. John was also an avid survivalist and would spend hours testing new ways of starting fires, tying knots and testing new self-sufficient methods.
John was a kind, gentle soul with a quick-witted, wonderfully dry sense of humour that led to a knack for lighting up a room with his funny one-liners. He was an introvert who often preferred quiet evenings at home with his family. John was a devoted husband and father who always put his family first and supported them in every way imaginable. He was a role model and mentor for many, both personally and professionally, and a friend to all who knew him.
