James (Jim) Dale Gibson passed away peacefully with his wife, Patricia (Pat) Gibson at his side in the early morning hours of August 14th, 2024. Dad struggled with his health for three years, growing weaker each year. This battle is now over.
Jim will be remembered by his wife Patricia, children; Crystal (Dan) Kehler, Holly (Matthew) Christopher and Cameron Gibson (Paige Burnett), grandchildren; Samuel, Matthew (Jolene), Jaime (Madi), Taylor (Keeton), Mason (Ashely) and Scott (Madison), great grandchildren; Coraline and Juliet, sisters; Sandra Mercier and Carol (Jim) Swanky, sisters-in-law; Charlene Moores, Janice Dziver and Sharon White, as well as Carla Gibson and Paul Kornas, nieces, nephews and many friends. Jim was predeceased by his parents, brother-laws; Richard Mercier, Milton Moores, William Dziver and Raymond White.
Jim was born in Winnipeg, MB on February 14th, 1942, to Cyril Homersham (Gibby) and Margret Gibson, née Anderson. He grew up in Winnipeg and Edmonton. When he finished school, he went into sales. He sold many different products over the years, from chocolate, calculators to furniture. He found his niche furniture sales and retired in his 70’s.
He always loved the outdoors and animals (except cats). He passed that love onto his children. At one gathering there were six dogs, a rabbit and a parrot. Jim’s love of the outdoors meant that the family went on many camping trips whether it was rainy, sunny or hailing (we will never forget that one). He also took the family on many trips, the most memorable being a whirl-wind tour of Europe.
One of Jim and Pat’s dreams was to have a cabin on a lake. It began to in the 80’s when they bought a property with a stunning view on Black Sturgeon Lake north of Kenora. The old tent trailer made due until a cabin shell was complete. Over the years they worked at finishing the cabin which eventually became the perfect place to retire. Jim now lived in the wilderness he loved, fishing, hunting, snowmobiling, going on canoe trips, and hosting family and friends. As Jim aged, he liked to spend time in a warmer climate. Jim and Pat spent several winters in Florida and later in Osoyoos BC where they made more good friends. In 2018 Jim and Pat moved to St. Anne Manitoba where they were once again surrounded by a wonderful community.
Jim will be remembered as a man who liked to entertain with his tall tales, amuse with many puns and jokes (some good and some not so good) and sing crazy songs that he made up in the moment.
Jim will be missed.
The Family.
