Libby Miller

June 14, 1934 — March 1, 2026

And just like that, on Sunday, March 1, 2026, quickly and quietly mom went to her Heavenly home.

She was born Elizabeth Chomyshen on June 14, 1934, to Paul and Mary (Balak) Chomyshen in Hawarden, Saskatchewan. In the spring of 1956, as mom was working in a little restaurant in Dryden, Ontario, she met our dad, Rudy Miller, who was a winter log truckdriver. They were married on October 20, 1956 two sons and four daughters were born to them.

Mom was converted and together with Dad, was baptized into the Church of God in Christ Mennonite in the year of 1974. They lived in Rosenort, MB till 1979, moving north to Arran, SK, and settling there in the Swan River Valley to farm grain and cattle together. They shared 56 years of married life till dad was called Home in May, 2009.

Mom was the ninth child in a lively family of eight boys and eight girls, and spent her early years growing up learning to bake bread, make perogies, milk cows, and walking 4 miles to and from school. There are many enjoyable stories of jolly times and hard work they as a family shared together back then.

Mom loved and cared deeply. She showed it in many ways, such as snappy comebacks, a gentle punch to the arm, and food, lots of food. She touched many people and made lasting friendships wherever she went. Mom was a contented farm wife and homemaker. An amazing cook. Her buns were perfect, and her perogie dough was “thin” and second to none. Mom grew a huge garden, and we girls have many happy memories of all the produce that she taught us to preserve. Many buckets of wild berries were picked to juice and make jam. She was unselfish and had a compassionate heart. Her home was open all the time to everybody, both near and far. She denied her own wishes, making sure someone else always had the better part. Mom didn’t complain. She enjoyed and was thankful for the simple things in life; a drive through God‘s beautiful countryside, looking at the growing crops of grain and hayfields. A special memory is hearing her voice in her own special key, singing snippets of song, In the Sweet By and By, and On the wings of a Snow White Dove, to name a few. She was a special Grans to her grandchildren and Baba to her great-grandchildren.

Due to declining health in June 2022, we, as her family, faced the hard decision of relocating her from her familiar home to Maplewood Manor. There she was blessed to live under their exceptional care and at the same time sharing her spark with everyone there. We are grateful to the staff for their wonderful care of Mom. We will miss her here in life tremendously, but are so grateful she could go Home to her Maker.

She leaves 2 sons, Greg, Howard, and Lorilie. 4 daughters, Dar and Del, Yvonne and Earl, Angela and Kent, Denise and Brenton, 12 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, 1 brother, Jim and Faye, 1 sister, Ruth, 3 sisters-in-laws, MaryAnne, Marguerite, Connie. Her in-laws, Walter and Phyllis, Otto and Rochelle, Adella, Deloris and Norma, and special friend and caregiver Lois.

Her husband Rudy, grandson Dallas, daughter-in-law Brenda, her parents, 7 brothers, 6 sisters, her parents-in-law, 2 brothers-in-law, 5 sisters-in-law, all preceded her in death.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, March 9, 2026, at 10:30 am DST at The Swan River Valley Mennonite Church, Harlington District, Manitoba, with viewing being held one hour before the service. Interment and reception with sharing of memories to follow.
