It is with sadness, and gratitude for a life well lived, that we announce the peaceful passing of David Adrian on Monday, May 5, 2025, at the age of 83 years.
David was born in Rosemary, Alberta, on September 7, 1941, to Leonard and Anna Adrian, immigrants from Russia. Their home may have lacked insulation, but it was rich in character and mischief by the many challenges of settling in the prairies.
David felt called to ministry at age 12 and began his studies at CMBC in Winnipeg where he met Lynda, a schoolteacher from southern Manitoba. They married in 1966 and built a life rooted in faith and service. After completing his Masters of Divinity, David began his pastoral work in 1972 in Plum Coulee, Manitoba, where they raised four children.
After nine years in church ministry, David became a chaplain and counsellor with Valley Crisis Ministries, serving those who “fell between the cracks” of the churches. He lived simply and gave freely, always drawn to people in pain or isolation.
David retired at 60, continuing to reach out to those in need, attending men’s groups, and enjoying his times in the coffee shop. In 2008, after 36 years in Plum Coulee, David and Lynda moved to Steinbach to be closer to family. David embraced the move, quickly making new connections and becoming part of Calvary Chapel.
In his 40s, David was diagnosed with cerebellar atrophy, gradually transitioning from cane to walker to wheelchair. Though confined to his condo in later years, he remained full of gratitude—for Lynda, the condo, and the big window through which he watched the world go by.
In 2023, after a ten-month hospital stay in Steinbach and Vita, David moved to Rest Haven. He joined Bible studies, coffee times, and enjoyed every moment with any who came to visit. Two days before his peaceful passing, with joy and contentment, he said, “I am living at the very top of life” speaking of the joy he found in knowing Christ. David will be remembered for his sense of humour, his faith, his joy and optimism, and deep love for Christ.
His family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff at Rest Haven for their kindness and care. The family is also grateful to the many people who connected with David while he was confined to a wheelchair in the condo, during his hospital stay, and throughout his time at Rest Haven. He spoke so fondly of these visits.
David leaves behind his wife of 59 years, Lynda, and their children: Elwyn (Shirley) of Winnipeg, Cynthia (Wayne) of Oakbank, and Marlin (Sheryl) of Mitchell. David was a loving grandfather to eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren. David was predeceased by his sons, Marvin, in 1974, an infant son and Daryle, in 1992 from a lengthy battle with Leukemia.
