Cornelius K. Stoesz

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of our dear husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather at the age of 82 at Bethesda Regional Health Center.

He is survived by his loving wife Joyce of 57 years; children Doyle (Raquel), Brent, Candace (Jamie); grandchildren Myles, Sienna (Rob), Rio, Noah, Tatianna, Ryder, Samuel, and Spencer; great grandchildren Phaetyn, Ivory and Wilder. He will also be missed by his puppy Daisy and all the grand puppies.

Also left to mourn his passing are his sisters, Hilda (John) Klassen and Johanna (Wes) Peters; his aunts Anne Hiebert and Nettie Hiebert; brothers in law Reuben Kehler and Peter Kehler (Judy); as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

He is predeceased by his parents, Jacob and Tina Stoesz, brothers Bill and his wife Vera, Edward, and infant brother Jakie. Also, his in-laws, John and Annie Kehler.

Corny was born on November 10,1941 in Steinbach. He lived in Canada till he was 7 years old when his family moved to Paraguay for 5 years. Upon returning to Canada, they lived in Niverville, Grunthal and Steinbach where he worked at Steinbach Creamery for 38 years. He also worked at Tri Me Cabinets for 10 years but had to retire due to health issues.

On December 3rd, 1966, he married Joyce Kehler, and they welcomed two sons and a daughter. Dad and Mom enjoyed 57 years together which in that time they were able to travel with each family. They got to see Mexico, Cuba, Hawaii, and Florida.  Mom and Dad loved to go out for supper with friends and sometimes just for a ride and ice cream.

Dad loved sports. He played baseball and hockey and then later coached his boys. His favorite team was the Toronto Maple Leafs, then in later years, the Jets. He also loved watching the Bombers play football. He took great pride in watching his grandkids play sports. Dad knew all the sports stats and loved to discuss with his boys and grandsons until the dementia made it too hard for him.

Dad loved to camp with his family. We spent many years at Toniata and Lilac. He also enjoyed cards, checkers, shuffleboard, and pool. In his retirement years he developed a love of woodworking he made beautiful pieces for mom, his kids, and grandkids.

The family extends their appreciation to the staff at Bethesda Regional Health Center and Boundary Trails Hospital for their compassion and care of dad. We'd also like to thank his best friend Danny for all the visits and cheering dad up, and to neighbors Greg and Janice for helping with the yard and many other things when dad couldn't do it anymore. Special thanks to Rob and his staff at Crossings Funeral Care for the excellent service and compassion.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba.

Dad we will miss your jokes and most of all your smile. This is not goodbye but until we meet again in Heaven.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 7:00 pm on Tuesday, April 2, 2024, at Crossings Funeral Care. With viewing one hour prior to the service. A private family interment will take place in the Memorial Cemetery on Wednesday.
