Anne Toews

February 24, 1949 — May 31, 2026

On May 31, 2026, in the early afternoon with her family at her side, Anne Toews went peacefully home to be with Jesus. Anne will be missed by her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Anne will be greatly missed by her family; daughter in law Giselle and David Martens (Steven & Alyssa Toews, [Ezekiel, Oliver and Hannah]; Jordan and Heidi Toews, [Hudson, Emmalyn, Seth, Layah and Jesse]; Nicholas & Julia Toews [Analie and Nevaya]); son Ernest and Sherri Toews (Madison & Giuniet Aldea [Aslan and Isa]; Ezra & Natsha; Jacey & Layne Pappel; son Sheldon and Corinne Toews (Julianna; Jeremiah & fiancée Orianna); son Daryl and Charlotte Toews (Brooklyn; Bryce; Brock).

Anne was predeceased by her son Kevin in 2021, her husband Peter in 2022, her parents, and several siblings and in-laws.

Anne was born in Cuahtemoc, Mexico on February 24,1949 to John and Margaret Reimer and moved to Manitoba with her family in Spring of 1952.

Anne remembered the move from Mexico to Canada fondly, sitting in the back of a truck on benches sitting with her family, specifically with her sisters whom she cherished deeply her entire life. The family moved to the Winkler area where Anne attended school and talked often about the farmhouse she grew up in until around age 12 when the family moved to the Grunthal area. Anne met the love her of her life Peter Toews while attending young peoples and going to choir practice. Anne was baptized on confession of her faith on May 21, 1967. Anne and Peter were married on August 4, 1968, and raised their 4 sons in the Grunthal area.

Anne’s life was dedicated to her husband and sons and later her daughter in laws, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Growing a large garden every year so she could feed her family was one of Anne’s greatest passions. Along with gardening, Anne spent hours in enjoying working in the soil in her many flower beds and having beautiful flowers to cut and put in vases. Anne baked the very best chocolate chip cookies and always had a brownie on the counter for Peter’s sweet tooth. Anne had a servant’s heart, and she enjoyed being in the ladies sewing circle at church when the boys were young and always helping in the kitchen at church helping with food and serving. Anne also sold Avon in the community for many years, creating lifelong friendships and great experiences.

Most of all Anne loved to serve her husband and family by watching grandchildren, making meals and baking also greeting and saying goodbye to all family with a big hug. While Anne struggled the last several years with dementia, it could not steal her joy in seeing her family and giving all who loved her fierce hugs coming and going. Her smile never dimmed, her loved for family and Jesus remained till the end.

The family would like to express our sincere appreciation and thanks to The Cottages and their great staff who took such great care of mom the last 3 ½ years. They cared for Anne with love and compassion and walked together with the family in Anne’s final days. Thank you also to Rob Hiebert at Crossing Funeral Care for guidance and compassion through this time of loss. Thank you also to our family and friends for all your support and prayers.
