Anita Korpas

With deep sadness, we announce the peaceful passing of Anita Korpas on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, at Bethesda Regional Health Centre in Steinbach, Manitoba, surrounded by loving friends.

Anita was born on January 8, 1941, in Niedersessmar, Germany—a date she would proudly point out that she shared with Elvis Presley. Her life was shaped by remarkable experiences from an early age. Having lived through the Second World War, Anita carried with her countless stories of her childhood, the war years, and the many chapters of her life that followed. At the age of 21, she came to Canada with her first husband, and together they welcomed their son, Roger Trikojat. Roger passed away in June 2024, and Anita carried his memory with her always.

In 1969, Anita met her second husband, Frank Korpas. Together they shared 39 years of marriage and a life filled with travel and adventure. Through Frank’s career, Anita had the opportunity to experience different places and cultures around the world. These experiences became part of the rich collection of stories she loved to share and helped shape the elegant and worldly woman so many came to know.

Anita’s friends often encouraged her to write a book because of the incredible stories she could tell. She had a remarkable ability to bring her memories to life, whether she was talking about the war, her travels, her marriages, or the many experiences she gathered throughout her years. There was always another story to tell, another memory to share, and usually a cup of tea waiting nearby.

Anita was incredibly welcoming and generous. She loved having friends and neighbours come through her door for tea, conversation, and good company. She enjoyed cooking for those around her and was always thoughtful about making sure others were cared for. Anita also believed strongly in showing appreciation. If someone did something for her, she wanted them to be properly compensated, reflecting her generous spirit and her desire to treat people fairly.

One of Anita’s many endearing traditions was her love of sending cards. She would often have cards pre-addressed and ready to go, ensuring that birthdays, special occasions, and thoughtful messages were never forgotten. In keeping with Anita’s wonderful way of planning ahead, there are even cards that will continue to arrive for her friends and loved ones after her passing—a lasting reminder of her thoughtfulness and care.

Anita lived a full and interesting life, one filled with love, travel, friendship, resilience, and stories. She brought elegance, warmth, generosity, and a wonderful sense of character wherever she went. Those who knew her will remember the welcome of her home, the invitation to sit down for tea, the meals she lovingly prepared, the cards she so thoughtfully sent, and most of all, the stories that could keep a conversation going for hours.

Anita will be deeply missed by her loving friends and neighbours, and by all who had the privilege of sharing in her life. The time spent together, the laughter, the conversations, and her unforgettable stories will remain treasured memories.

You were loved, Anita, and you will be deeply missed.

A Celebration of life is planned for 3:00 pm, Saturday, September 26, 2026, at Crossings Funeral Care in Steinbach, Manitoba, with afternoon tea to follow. 

Anita's Celebration of life will be available by livestream for those unable to attend.
